Plus a Happy Ending to Boost Your Spirits
Marion County Fire District #1 does not have any wildland fires in its service territory. However, it is providing resources to help combat wildland fires burning in the area and across the state of Oregon.
Three fires – Riverside, Beachie, and Holiday Farm – have burned 838,000 acres in Oregon. MCFD#1 has sent a combined total of 13 emergency personnel and one command staff (in the form of Fire Chief Kyle McMann), plus three support vehicles, an engine and a water tender.
Firefighters volunteer to serve on these fire conflagration teams and are compensated by the state or federal government. Apparatus that was sent to wildland fires are units that are not in service for MCFD#1 due to recent budget cuts. The state or federal government reimburses taxpayers for their use during wildland firefighting incidents, as well.
Want a happy story during this difficult time? Anna Kraemer, Chief Administrative Officer for MCFD#1, had evacuated her pets and livestock as a precaution. Her property was in the middle of two wildland fires that were burning towards each other while she was working to keep information flowing to her team and the community regarding the ever changing fire conditions. . She’s pictured here with one of her goats named Gus after they were reunited earlier this week.
